Today, I realized something. Something I've known for a good while but today I finally realized it: I just want to give.
Give. Help. Volunteer. Whatever you wanna call it. I wanna spend (most of) my life helping others. Not any god, not my country. People that need help. Be it helping an alcoholic that needs help getting through a rough time, spending a few hours in a hospital with someone who hasn't any family to visit them, it doesn't matter, not any more. Once I though 'helping' meant doing something that was for 'the greater good'. Something that would outlast me and you. You know, go to Africa, save a starving child, that kinda @!$%#. (All good if you have the opportunity too.) But you know what? I was wrong. Its about doing something, anything, be it big or small, that keeps someone else going. Living. Existing. Its about keeping people where the light is. It doesn't need to be a million miles away.
In a world where almost everyone is out for themselves I have decided to spend my time helping others, in any way that I can. Hey, that sounds a little corny, I hear you say. You're probably right. In fact, it kinda does. But if corny is doing something that brings a little hope into the sinking world we live in today then let it be corny.
Its time for me, and us all, to break free of the shackles of ourselves and start helping each other.
You never know, something good might come of it.
